What To Expect At Your Orlando In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

To help you decide on the perfect window covering for your rooms, some companies, like Sunburst, recommend an in-home consultation. By taking products to you, we can present how different window treatments would look with your decor. You’ll see how simple it is to pick the best window treatment when you leave the sterile showroom.

But what happens during an in-home consultation? And how will showing you different products at your home help you better choose the perfect window treatment? Sunburst regularly performs these in-home consultations, and here’s what you will see at your visit.

Stepping Through A Typical In-Home Shutters Consultation

Homeowners choosing between samples of window treatments.

Start by scheduling an appointment by calling your local representative. If you already know what window covering you want, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make sure to show you some options available for your preferred treatment. We will also show other options, so you can feel confident that your choice matches your ideas.

During the actual appointment, we’ll sit down and discuss what you want in a window treatment. We’ll look at your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency ideas, and we’ll ask about hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your rep will also inquire about how your windows are used and what ambiance you want to attain. We want to fulfill your final vision, so the more information, the better.

You may have to see many different products until we find the perfect window treatment for your needs. Most customers need to look at a few different ideas, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or choosing the perfect stain to match the room. We’ll also show you all the options available for the treatment, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

After you decide on a treatment, we’ll find the exact measurements of your windows. We generally measure the windows throughout the house—even if you only plan to fit treatments for select rooms. We get multiple measurements because many of our clients ask to be able to order additional shutters or blinds quickly. At the end of the appointment, we will walk you through a detailed, written quote, so there are no surprises on your invoice.

Red Flags For A Poor In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are convinced that Sunburst will perform an easy and enjoyable in-home consultation, there are some things you should never see from any window treatment rep. It should go without saying, the quality of the consultation usually equals the quality of the product.

Primarily, your rep should treat your home with respect. He or she should show up when promised, ready to present, and offer to prevent floor scuffs with shoe booties. Your consultant should always give you product and company brochures and pricing information.

In regards to pricing, you should be given a full written quote. Don’t accept a vague guess, jotted down on a product brochure or the back of a business card. And don’t take pricing information before they take any window measurements. You need to be able to follow how much you should pay and why. Be sure to to search for references and online reviews.
